I just gotta' say... ( & I think a few here can back me up),
I Get the Assignment, & I Know 255/157 have a Large Response Area going West,
But, I gotta' say, having Dispatched, Driven Tow Truck, (including Chasing Late-Night Fires), in
East Flatbush/Flatbush for Years - 255/157 Beat 249/113 9 times out of 10 Gettin'-In to Snyder Ave
from Flatbush Ave to Utica.
Especially by Holy Cross Cemetery... Coming up Brooklyn Ave from Clarendon Rd. you have 3 Dead Ends on your Right Side,
Right Turn onto Snyder Ave & 6 Right Side Dead Ends to E.42 St. At 5 AM, your there in a Flash. Just Sayin' 😏

I wonder what the old route cards say for boxes for relocators to use, if they’re still in use?
Since the response to some boxes were reassigned to, what it seems like, the old 3rd due company on the Alarm Assignment Card, it caused some companies to, either lose boxes or change their order of response.
When I went to chauffeur school, we were told, “the safest response, was the one with the least number of turns”. I guess that is changed too.
Another problem affecting response time is all the stop signs & traffic lights where none existed before Bloomberg came around, not to mention the number of bicycles & motor scooters now in use.

Some boxes make no sense. It’s all over the city though
True, a company may be a 10th of a mile closer to a box, but may require a zig-zag pattern to get there versus a more direct response route from the other unit. Computers.

Speed bumps too…for example, if coming from Downtown Brooklyn, the GPS will suggest Dean St. over Atlantic Ave. for eastward travel, even though response will be slowed by numerous speed bumps on Dean St.

GPS is a helpful backup but is no replacement for learning your response area.

249/113 is at a disadvantage going south because Rogers is one way north.

255/157 has an advantage in every direction, they can turn onto Rogers going one way north or get right into the intersection of Farragut and Flatbush. They can go in any direction onto a major artery very easily.

Yes. Always said their location is like the hub of an old wagon wheel. And the “spokes” are main streets coming from the hub.
