I just heard this on TMZ, they we're interviewing a person who I believe was a former army pilot.Almost exactly 24 hours prior to the DCA mid-air collision, Republic Airlines flight Brickyard 4514 was forced to abort an approach into DCA Runway 19 flying the Potomac visual near Georgetown. This was due to a TCAS alert for a northbound Blackhawk (PAT 11) on Route 1 at a prohibited 300-600 feet despite both aware of the other.
reply #43It probably won't be verified until the helo is raised from the river; but could the crew have been wearing night vision appliances, and if so, are they monochromatic? Could this cause any confusion by aircraft lights blending with street lights etc. through those goggles, making the aircraft difficult to identify?
Ive always heard from 1st responders to jet crashes that the JP5 stink overwhelms all, despite whatever they may have seen on site that day or in years before. Sure, you may have seen worse or dealt with worse in recoveries but the JP5 stink follows you to your hotel or home, into your non duty clothes and continues to be the room while you try to decompress from the days events.![]()
