This used to be part of Allegheny City (now the North Side) until annexed into Pittsburgh in 1907. Then on Sandusky Street, Engine 6 and Truck A became PBF Engine and Truck Co 46 in the Fifth Battalion. In 1952 they moved into new quarters at 507 Union Avenue at East Ohio Street.

My good friend Captain McGinnis was a Lieutenant in 46 Truck in the late 1950's. There is a park right across the street from the firehouse. One of his guys was playing basketball there when he stumbled and broke his ankle. They dragged him back across the street before calling the Chief and notifying him that a member had slipped on the apparatus floor and needed to go to the hospital.

46's was first due at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) where the present hit tv show "The Pitt" is modeled after.

Allegheny City had their fire alarm office on Arch Street. It wasn't moved to the City of Pittsburgh Fire Alarm Office on the fifth floor of the CIty-County building on Grant Street until the late 1940's. The new Gamewell North Side Circuit Boards there had none of the ornate brass works of the original Gamewell equipment of the early 1900's. All North Side boxes were numbered in the seven thousand series.
