Groton City FD responded to a working fire at the Groton Towers apartment complex. Heavy fire was on the third and fourth floor and through the roof. Numerous tenants were stranded on balconies and needed to be rescued via ladders. Four tenants were taken to the hospital. Additional units were assigned from Poquonnick Bridge, Electric Boat, Sub Base, New London, Old Mystic, Mystic,, Ledyard and Gales Ferry. It was reported that 75 families were displaced and being cared for by the American Red Cross.
