Walter Clark, a member of the F.D.N.Y. Retirees group I belong to was working that night. His life was spared because as he was entering the building with his company (7 Truck) he was ordered by a Chief officer to reposition a rig. He ended up placing the aerial of another company's apparatus to the roof to provide the only means of egress for a group of firemen who were cut off and needed to evacuate immediately. He's a great guy, very typical of the men who were on the job 'back in the day'. I'm proud to know him and call him 'Brother'.
