Interesting to see Car 421 on both this and the Manhattan 10-76. I'm aware that this is a reserve Command Chief unit staffed by a Deputy, and it appears that they were acting Citywide Tour Commander for at least some of the night last night. My questions, if anybody knows, are:

1) Would this be a deputy brought in from home, i.e. over an above the nine deputies on shift, or is this someone taken out of their normal spot during a shift, say Division 15, and assigned Car 421?

2) The previous times I've noticed the reserve Command Chief activated I think it had to do with multiple calls at once, i.e. the Citywide chief went to Call A, then Call B came in and Car 421 was activated and responded. Yet, both calls last night received Car 421. Does Car 421 sometimes get staffed for a whole shift to act as Citywide Tour Commander? Or did it just happen that perhaps the normally-assigned Citywide Tour Commander was unexpectedly unavailable for a bit last night?

Unless things have changed, two DCs are designated Car 421 and Car 422. They work in their division unless activated due to simultaneous major incidents.
I presume one may be activated for the balance of a tour should the CWTC become unavailable.

Feel free to correct or elaborate.

Thank you. I am curious in this case if the division they vacate simply goes unstaffed or do they move a BC to ADC and have a captain ABC, etc.

There should be an ADC to fill in for the division and ABC for the now open battalion.

Prayers and condolences to those who have lost loved ones. A tip o da helmet to the companies that went all out to minimize the loss of life and contain the fire. What they saw last night can never be erased. Hang in there bothers.

2 deputy chiefs for the day tour and night are assigned as a “car” they will be activated as a city wide tour commander in case none is avail. A driver from metro tech will pick them up in a Tahoe or black pickup and be assigned on 3rd alarms or higher and they will back fill the Div with adc and either keep the bn oos or have a captain abc
