Yeah, Btn.6; Just Because a Pedestrian was Run-Over, Trapped Under the Rig, Extricated, Boarded & Collared, & Transported to Hosp.;

Let's Not 'Jump the Gun' & go Calling This Some Kinda' Major Accident. SB is gonna' "Investigate' & 'Get back to you ...'  ???  ::)

You are not on the job so don't second guess a Chief's investigation.

True, That, My Friend. But; Btn.6 Is On The Job, Yes ?

"-B6 this is being deemed a major accident "  20:44

I Think; perhaps The Chief of the 6th Battalion has enough Sense and Experience to Identify a 'Major Accident' when he sees it.

Its not your olace to judge based on what you feel.

We have standards and criteria for minor and major accident classifications in our books.  It was classed as a minor because it fit the criterion in our procedures.

Like another brother said, its not you place to question us if you not on this job, if you do not know what's on our books for procedures, but more so if you were NOT at the scene operating.

A major accident starts a lot of gears turning...better off letting Safety Bn make that call....that's what we have them for

Easy Does It Guys  ... I Based My Comment on The Observation of the Btn.6 Cheif - Again; I Quote

-B6" this is being deemed a major accident "20:44

Having Driven an Ambulance for more than 3 Yr.s, I Fully Appreciate the Inherent Hazards. I'm merely reporting my Observation here on a

Difference of Perspective... Btn.6 O/S; IC Reports 'Major Accident'

Safety Btn. Who, when all is Said & Done, has to Protect FDNY Liability, Says - No; This Accident does Not Meet Criteria for 'Serious Accident'.

Just wait until this Accident Case gets into Litigation; and Attorneys and Plaintiff  start talking about the 'Seriousness' of this Accident and Subsequent Injury & Damages...

No, I am Not On This Job,and, I Was Not On-Scene.  That said, I have Served for Years in E.M.S. . Both as a BLS Crew Chief/Vehicle Op., and as an E.M.T. in ER. I know a thing or 2 about MVA's & Trauma.    ;)

Driving an ambulance for 3 years doesn't mean shit  Have you ever drove a fire truck in Manhattan or any part of the city where it's congested as hell ?      Nobody cares what your previous driving experiences were/are. You probably never driven in an area like 3 truck has.  Someone got hurt bad.  The chauffeur of the truck is probably extremely affected by this.  Why don't we all have compassion for everyone involved and stop second guessing actions by the Chiefs and members involved.

Exactly.

In the grand scheme of things, one person hit by a vehicle does not automatically constitute a "Serious" or "Major" accident.....I have over 24 years of EMS and 6 years of ED/trauma experience as a trauma nurse, and there ARE criteria set for even alerting a trauma team in regards to incidents....It is the Safety Battalion's job to investigate the incident, file the report with his signature on it.  It is his call.  Making a statement over the radio prior to him making that decision is far more damaging than him downplaying it, as it shows uncertainty.

gotta be rough for da chauffeur. Hoping for the best for all involved. Just a raw deal all around.

What kind of special training does the safety battalion get?
Where are they promoted from? From a company captain or is there another stream the SB comes from?
What is the job description? From this site it seems they go to multiple alarm fires to be a safety officer I am assuming, and sounds like they go to any kind of apparatus MVA

Having someone pinned under can seem a lot worse than it is....I have had ones that looked like Hollywood sets but no big deal for patient.  Here's the thing,.....if it's not fatal then it's probably not going to be a Major Accident

Thoughts to the LCC and members of 3 Truck. Also to the member of the public involved

from the kitchen.......

3 truck had the green light while responding......
the victim (drunk) darted into traffic chasing his girlfriend.

our books classify major and minor accidents......  by our books this is a minor
