Car-1 is the IC

Command to Fire Alarm give me an 8th Alarm. Have the companies respond up Washington to Corey @07:06

E-39,50

Car-3 have E-50 come Washington to Alston @07:10

E-39 we are there now at Washington & Alston

Crazy how an 8th alarm just gives you 2 Engines...puts it in perspective just how big FDNY is with virtually unlimited resources to throw at the "big ones".

Boston split its 5th alarm running card assignments so that a 4 engine 2nd alarm became the 2nd and 3rd alarms with 2 engines each, the 3rd alarm became the 4th and 5th alarms, 4th alarm became 6th & 7th, and 5th alarm became 8th and 9th, each with 2 engines. Overall, it is the same number of total units, but it slowed the pace of escalating alarms, allowing the Incident Commander more pauses to consider deployment of additional arriving companies.

At the end of 1979 Boston had 47 front line engine companies, 27 ladders, 2 rescues and 2 Aerial Towers. Then came the cuts of the 80's and that is where we ended up with those numbers.

Absolutely prop 2 1/2 was devastating to BFD, how many busy companies closed, whole houses closed down, many double engine houses reduced to engine and ladder.

Engine 43 and Ladder 20 was closed, they were on the line of Southie, Roxbury, Dorchester, as well as close to the major expressway. Every 2 engine house lost an engine, including Engine 12 from Fort Dudley. 2 engine companies in East Boston were closed, East Boston is physically separated from the city proper. My still engine, Engine 34 was closed, they were a cover company on a lot of second alarms.
