My wife's grandmother lived at 1818 Kimball Street. I believe the family was the first owner moving there from Manhattan right after WWII- a nice neighborhood. We were visiting in the late 80's and had to go to LaGuardia. Granny offered to arrange transportation from Kimball St. The next thing I know, we're in the back of a jitney cab and I'm looking at the roadway through a hole in the floorboard. But what concerned me more was when the guy makes a left turn off New Lots Avenue onto Pennsylvania and I realized that we were taking a curbside War Years tour of 290/103's running district.
