I have the log book from Queens Ladder 126 from 1915 to 1916. It lists Francis Brennan as the Captain. He was also acting Chief for the 50th Battalion at times according to the log. What can you tell me about this time period and the Captain of the fire house. They had a horse drawn ladder.

At that time the FDNY worked a continuous duty system, with only one chief assigned to each battalion and division. If that Chief was unavailable (day off, vacation, called to headquarters, etc.,) the senior captain in the Battalion officially assumed the administrative duties as Chief. The senior officer on the ground at a fire became the incident commander (as is still done today) until the Acting Chief arrived.

Someone more familiar with Ladder 126 will have to provide details about that particular company.

Ladder 126 was organized in 1907, as Ladder 76, at 98 Irving Place (97-22 Cresskill Place), in the former quarters of Jamaica H&L 3, organized in 1849.
They were in this station until 1931.
