once you get east of Lefferts gets little funky with assignments, down in south ozone. We(142) can get to some of those locations faster than 155 or 126 and were 2nd or Fast or on the s/c. Same for the Engines.

When seconds count in the fire service why should etiquette play in at all. Most of those Buildings in that area are wood frame and some of them even balloon frame which is even worse. As someone that competed against 120 & 123 an inch would never be given. If a grab was made who would feel bad. I guess old school looks at things different.

155 took the building and put the bucket up but let have their 1st due position. I did 15 years in Brooklyn, I know what your saying.

"Etiquette" has no place in the operation. Professionalism does. The wise and experienced men who wrote Ladders 3 and its predecessor documents made an accommodation for this- make no unusual effort to arrive first, be guided by the alarm response, etc. Naive, maybe.

If you get there first- ok. But if you if you see them coming? Jump off the rig and run in the building? Or take the floor above?

As a truck chauffer the 3 AM run and the dispatcher announces numerous phone calls and reports of people trapped, are you going to slow down because of something written 50 years ago. So again common sense should take over. After the Dispatcher says that your heart goes into overdrive and the adrenaline starts flowing.
