Those buildings are built on a very steep slope. So 6 stories from sidewalk up on Highland side but 3 extra floors Down for a total of 9 that face the rear.
 
We responded to that box when we had the American LaFrance rig and taking up we got another box in Brownsville. So we start heading down Miller Ave., which is almost 90* down hill, and the aerial came out about 3 feet when it was bedded. The later rigs, Seagraves, had a ladder lock to prevent that from happening. Back in the 70's everything was a learning experience because fire duty was so prevalent and things were changing almost daily.
