The infamous LeHarve buildings. Somewhere around 1960 there was a job on one of the upper floors and as a result of the fire, there was a civilian death. At that time, L144, the first due truck had a 1955 FWD 75' aerial rig. That 75 footer obviously couldn't reach the upper floors and of course FDNY was, in a round about way, given blame for the death. The newspapers had a field day with articles about tragedy and a short ladder. I'm pretty sure somewhere on this fantastic site is references and photos of the aforementioned fire. Needless to say, 144 didn't have that '55 FWD much longer.
