BC47: 2-story peaked roof. Fire is in bedroom on first floor. 20x60 wood frame peaked roof PD.

BC47: Primaries and secondaries are negative except for in the fire room.

PBFD 1st Due arrived within 3 minutes, stretched the line and had water on the fire.

Add Roxbury VFD to the response. All 3 departments respond together on every fire call.

That had to be over 10 minutes for the 3rd due engine to arrive and then transmit the 10-75 - at least a 6 mile ride.

They can talk to the QNS Disp on the QNS Frequency from their Rigs.

Not sure if it is still the procedure but when a resident called the Guard Shack (at the entrance) to report a Fire the person On Duty at the Gate would go outside the Shack & Pull Box 8300....(it may be more sophisticated today but thats the way it used to be).

The Vollies can talk to all 5 boros from the rigs. Some of the Vollie chief portables had that capability also. I know West Hamilton and BCFD have the cities handi talkie or what ever the scene frequency is called now in their radios also, along with their dept frequency. Broad Channel and West Hamilton were on 155.280 not sure if that changed with all of the public safety frequencies changing.

After Super Storm Sandy, the VFD's with the exception of the two in Staten Island, received a grant for new radios. They have their own UHF channels & also FDNY channels, EMS, & Marine band plus others.

When I was with WHB we didn't use 10 codes to avoid confusion. At least on the Queens frequency. Our 1060 was different from the cities for example.
So a first in vollie unit would say West Hamilton Beach to Queens we have a 2 1/2 story wood frame your location smoke showing from the 1ST floor front. Queens would relay that to either thr 39 or 331 and they would give the 1075. Usually over the air before their arrival. I know BC did the same. Once the occurred Queens would usually announce 1075 box 2044 by the vollies.
