Another one of my pet peeves.....how do you go from an AH or 2 & 2 to a "10-18" ?......give credit to the Units that worked ....you can go down to 1&1 but not a 10-18.... I have spoke about this thru the years while still OTJ.

especially with 4 man engines..the 2nd due engine has to get credit for assisting the 1st due engine
we seem to always sell our selves short on paper (reports) unlike the nypd
the nypd documents everything and this is why they close firehouses not precincts.

The other question should be - why does the dispatcher accept that transmission without wuestioning the sender?
I thought dispatchers get months of training before they're allowed to even sit at the console/

if they used 2 & 2 or AH/UC why would going down to an 18 to release units only count for 2 companies working? the IC gave an all hands already 3&2 working?

Speaking of unusual radio transmissions:

"0323 - Bn. 13 - Using 1x1, investigating a smoke condition.

0334 - Bn. 13 - Go with the 10-75 - Under Control. No additional units needed. We had a small fire in a 1st floor restaurant. Used All Hands.

0337 - Bn. 13 - Primaries are complete and negative. Trucks continue to open up.

0346 - Bn. 13 - Fire department activities have concluded."

I have brought this up at DV Conferences & other FDNY Formal & Informal meetings .....some just have deaf ears or just don't give a shit.

A 10-75 is a request for additional units. It does not mean anything other than that. It is not a signal that means “fire”

An “All hands” means that you used all the units on the assignment.

I have been out since 2009 & this "dropping down to an 18" has been going on with "some" BNs since before I got out....also I think that if an inexperienced FF is working in the BN the BC should keep a keen ear on what is being said over the air.... JMO.
