I can't recall the last time a 2nd Alarm was transmitted for what appears to be a manhole/transformer explosion/fire.

Anyone know what made this sooo exceptional??

About a month ago there was one. Transformer fire extended into the building. Nearly the same circumstances except this was only a transformer and not a gas line. https://nycfire.net/forums/threads/1-4-21-manhattan-2nd-alarm-10-77-box-1323.64236/

At this one they got reports of smoke in the basement and the chief decided to give the 2nd. Lots of buildings to search and they ended up relieving the guys.

Many thanks for your reply & link. When I got the original email notification, and took a look at the thread - it seemed to be a routine Con Ed situation
I guess that was in the early stages.

E-84 has one

LOL. BRAD.....l was busting chops. When fire ice was established the " lucky engines" were special called to the Astoria Con Ed for training. When they pulled up they were told your going to be a fire ice engine...period.. Well of course 319 just happened to be one of those units selected. The first winter and summer was " Disp we have a active manhole with fire special call FIRE ICE. I no for a fact 319 was special called all over the world even though they cover Batt's 39-44- 45-46-47-50 & 51. All the chiefs and bosses wanted to see how it worked.
At times it limited to what co. goes...
229s purple k is oos allot. 326 is oos hear and there. The normal engines have no state type truck for the ingredients.
