Fire In The Basement Of A 2 Story Private Dwelling

2nd Alarm:  E302,275,308, L133,50(Sefety), 39(Recourse Unit Leader), Safety Batt, Rescue Batt, Field Comm, TSU2, Missed the others

Shortly before 2 am this morning (Feb 7) FDNY units responded to reports of a house fire located at 145-50 222 Street In the Springfield Gardens section of the boro. Upon arrival of the first due companies, they were met with a heavy smoke condition and heavy fire showing on the exposure two side of a 2 sty 20 x 40 private dwelling.

While enroute the incoming units were advised about reports of people trapped in the dwelling. The fire started in the basement of the dwelling. Engine companies quickly went to work stretching 2 lines into the dwelling, while the truck companies went to work searching for the victims trapped in the dwelling. Upon arrival of Rescue 4 & Squad 270 they went to work assisting with searching and venting the house. Due to the heavy fire and smoke conditions in the basement the chief ordered a second alarm transmitted, bringing in additional firefighters to the scene.

While searching in the basement, firefighters found an elderly female victim in the rear of the house and removed her to the exterior of the fire building. Once outside Medics worked on the elderly victim and then transported her to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation by FDNY fire marshals, several firefighters were treated by EMS units for minor injuries.
