R-3 is SCUBA now as of mabe 3-4 years ago.

All All Hands and above get announced over citywide.

All-Hands and greater and 10-45s are the two things announced on Citywide.  Citywide is also used to dispatch the radio mechanic, and it's where various SOC companies and staff cars can be raised when they're available.

As always, thankyou.

I read that R3 was the only none SCUBA trained Rescue Company in the SOC, as they are now that cleared that one up.

Was asking about Citywide, becuase if listening to Da bronx,  R3 may not always announce to Da Bronx that they are responding to Manhattan and changing frequency, so if one was listening to the Bronx it may be missed, so Citywide might be an additional way of knowing where R3 are. I might be wrong though they might announce every time they change over to Manhattan, just not heard it yet.

I find R3 quiet a varied Rescue, as potentially, they could be anywhere from the Upper East Side, to Wakefield, down to the Throgs neck bridge, as they were the other night, along with batt 18, i was listening to Da Bronx, and Bat 20 was already assigned on a run, so Bat 18 picked up a run to a auto extrication on the The cross Bronx Expressway onto the Throgs Neck bridge into Queens. The incident in question was eventually located on the Throgs neck bridge Queens bound. Once 10-8, Bat 18 informed Da Bronx, that they were, and i quote 'We are way, way, way out of our response area K...'. made me smile....

About companies switching frequencies, mac8146 addressed that at some point:

Switching frequencies is up to individual officer working, when you acknowledge response the borough you are responding to receives it, so no need to tell them you are responding. E81/L46 often travel into Inwood 2nd due and most times I do not say anything on Manhattan Radio unless necessary. E-81 goes pretty far into North Manhattan on boxes.

There are plenty of times I've not heard R3 (and Squad 41 for that matter) changing frequencies, but it's a given they're responding.

Im monitoring Da bronx tonight into tommorow, well in fact all weekend..as im off sick with a 'Due to service' injury (always wear your PPE  guys ::) ::) :'( :'(  )

So i will have citywide on as well to catch if R3 hops over to Manhatten,

Jarrod - re units changing radio channels

It has long been customary in the field that FDNY units notify their home dispatcher when responding to another borough and to similarly notify the gaining dispatcher.  However, such practice is unnecessary;  the dispatching central office "takes ownership" of a unit when assigning a unit to that borough and that status is reflected in the Starfire CADS.  Both the losing and the gaining CO's are aware of the assignment.  It is, however, appropriate to notify by radio when returning to the home borough and the unit's normal response area.
