I worked in this area as a FDNY firemen/firefighter in both L-11 & TL-18. These "Project Fires" are among the hottest I ever fought. Heavy Cinderblock walls, concrete floors and ceilings, make the fire area like an oven, with us firefighters in it. These are "Content Fires", and the fire loading is often heavy. Anyone unable to self-escape is often in grave danger. The new complicating factor is Lithium Oxide Batteries being illegal recharged within the apartment. Manhattans Lower East Side still gets its fire duty. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
