3/11/18 2nd Alarm Helicopter Crash in East River 8611

I know it has not been mentioned on this page but why not transport to Metropolitan Hospital right at 97th street within view of the vrash site ? I know its a level 2 center but geez a Doctor is a Doctor. Stabilization is key here. Why not take them there ? Rather they transport by Boat to Bellview at 10 knots ? I dont get it..

That is a lot of resources I understand the severity of an aircraft in the water that?s a lot we had a helo go down in the Grand Canyon a few weeks ago and they sent a six man team win with one Helo and a couple trucks

Does anyone know why "MD to D-3 NYPD isn?t putting anymore helicopters in the air. So Air Recon might not happen @19:52"?
I wonder the same thing, I have 2 guesses, either they were out of air resources, everything they had that was flyable was already in the air.  The 2nd guess would be that the air around the scene was already too crowded with aircraft and I didn't want to risk another problem.  Times like this when I really think it would be good for FDNY to have their own resources for aerial observation.  Obviously in a case like this the drones are totally useless.

All of the reports this morning stating that all 5 passengers died.  The only survivor was the pilot who self extricated himself before anybody arrived on the scene.

So the pilot ("captain") left the others, nice guy, if he could get himself out, why couldn't he get any of the others out??

I'm not sure this comment is really necessary, at least until the NTSB investigation is completed, unless one was actually aboard the aircraft.

I made the comment after I heard the report that the pilot was able to free himself, It just sounded to me as like the pilot took off.  But you are right, my comment was out of order.

And no divers in the water till I get there  I didn?t get tha purpose if that. Just curios.

My thinking on this is that D-3 wanted to be there for direct supervision - but, then unless the particular chief working in D-3 has diving or marine expertise I thought it a bit strange as well. Perhaps there is a protocol on this.

The FDNY really gave Dallas FF FF Brian McDaniela a beautiful send-off, and the local news covered it very nicely - May he RIP.

RIP to all those lost.  Is there a video of the FDNY giving the firefighter the send off?

My guess with the pilot is that he could?ve been asked military and went through the dunk tank training and new to stay strapped into the helicopter was totally submerged and then release and escape that?s what we were taught you also could I had a air to her spare attached to his vest since he was flying over water or at least near him but in that case he could?ve still went down and went back in with that touches my very

Valid Point - However: It appears from On-scene Vid. that at 97 St. area they were still fighting a strong Downstream current.
Also, it appeared the Rescuers did not at have that point,  a spot to Safely and smoothly transfer the Victims to Land-based Units for Transfer to Hospital. As a former EMT I can tell you that in this desperate situation the Priority is to Maintain Effective CPR until a viable Transfer can executed. This was a tuff and complicated Job. As a former NY'er familiar w/ the area, I know that E.23 St. & East River provides easy & straight access to the River. Tuff Call; those On-scene w/ Hands-on Rescue & Treatment of Victims made the best decisions they could given the Conditions they were operating in.

God Bless Those Who Serve & Those Who Mourn.

Not sure how you found it, but thanks much for posting.  I went looking soon after I saw it on the news - but I guess it had not been posted on the PIX site yet.

I thought the FDNY was being wonderful, as they saluted there fellow FF and thier family/friends.  May they RIP.
