the only thing I can think of is they had a lot of pots and pans going - my reaction to the terminology used is similar to yours!!

I guess the food wasn't lo fat or dietic either!!
 
Thats funny, never heard anyone use the term heavy food on the stove, the new college dorms in my town have kitchens with stoves, and non of the students seem to be passing cooking class.
 
East New Yorker's haven't perfected corn-beef and cabbage yet I guess?  ;D
