Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York is in Queens, New York.

The past few days have been very busy for members in Queens as 3 massive fires broke throughout the borough, spreading resources and personnel very thin.

In Flushing, a 4th alarm fire broke out in a 6-story apartment building on Franklin Ave where the fire started on the top floor and spread through the cockloft. Firefighters battled the blaze for hours until they were able to get it under control. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Over in Corona on Northern Blvd., a blaze broke out Sunday Afternoon at a 3-story building where 60 Firefighters from various Queens Companies responded to the scene. It took about an hour to place this fire under control and again, fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Lastly, a large 3-alarm fire broke out at a private residence in Jamaica, prompting another large response from Firefighters. Thankfully, Firefighters were able to place this blaze under control in record time.

3 massive fires, 3 potential situations where things could’ve gotten a lot worse. This is yet another clear example as to why City Officials need to either open more companies or staff the 5th Firefighter; disaster has been averted but fire is being played with, literally. Something must be done to better equip our members to keep life and property safe here in New York City

I certainly agree with your sentiment but in reality FDNY is much better staffed than many departments across the country. Many departments are only running with three-man crews, chauffeur, officer in 1 firefighter in their obviously bearing a much worse situation than FDNY. I'm not sure where the hell's going to come from it's needed by FDNY and many other departments across the nation. Very few have what would be considered ideal manning and equipment levels.
