This western part of the Belmont section traditionally had 46/27 assigned 3d Due as they have a straight run up 3d Avenue. Has that changed?
A little local history. Lorrilard Place is named for the family that owned the tobacco company that makes Kent, Newport, etc., cigarettes. One would normally associate such families with the Carolinas and Virginia. This family estate originally grew tobacco and covered much of the area that today comprises Allerton, Williamsbridge, Rosedale, Belmont, the Botanical Gardens, and the Bronx zoo. The Lorillard Snuff Mill, located just below the Bronx River Falls inside the Gardens, was the site of my first job as a 15 year old, first pushing an ice cream wagon around the park, then promoted to the dream job working the soda fountain. The building, built in the 1840s, was recently renovated and renamed as the Stone Mill and used for events.
