Middle of the island, all companies on the ticket are about equal distance from this box. 2.5-3.0 miles. Very easily could all arrive at the same time.

Whenever there is a fire in this part of SI (Heartland Village/New Springfield/SI Mall), the same response questions come up because: no FDNY companies located close by; slow access roads; traffic congestion; and surrounding parks and wetlands.  Any of the responding companies (in red) could get in first depending on traffic and weather.  These are the Google Maps' distances and driving times from respective firehouses in SI and Brooklyn:

Company          Distance    Time
E165/L85          2.4 mi      9 min
E154                 2.4 mi    10 min
E166/L86          3.0 mi    13 min
E167/L87          3.3 mi    12 min
E162/L82/BN23 3.4 mi    15 min
E163/L83          3.5 mi    14 min
E159                4.1 mi      15 mi
E160/R5/D8      5.4 mi    19 min
L79/BN22          5.1 mi    21 min
E152/BN21        6.7 mi    20 min
S1                  14.7 mi    38 min

- Note these are Google maps mileage and average driving times which will be different for responding FDNY units and subject to traffic and routes taken. But this does show a response concern for area, which includes adjacent SI Mall with congested stores and commercial buildings.

- This is an area that needs a new firehouse to be built.  If responding units are not available, it is a long run for other units.

- Because of its central SI location, it could also be the location of a new SI squad.

- Because of its central SI location, it could also be the area to locate the next SI battalion chief (SI needs 4 BCs).

its the closest (volunteer) but can it make it up snake hill especially in inclement weather.

The closet company in that area is Richmond Engine.
Yes, and on a few occasions, I've seen Richmond Engine get in way before any FDNY unit. E154 has to travel east along Travis Ave. which is due for major repairs that include raising the single lanes in each direction so it doesn't get flooded. E165/L85 are "as the crow flies" close but have to climb the infamous "snake hill" that has been a problem because local area residents don't want it straightened out with an added emergency vehicle lane. Note that S.I. University Hospital is on the east shore and ambulances need that road to get there.

Volunteer Richmond Engine 1 is 1.3 miles (5 minutes) by Google Maps away - and they also have to go over winding Richmond Hill Road.

I remember them beating E165 into some fires but I don't remember them going to work before FDNY units except at brush fires and some car accidents.  They were always very cooperative.

Richmond goes to work if they beat in the paid guys. Every non proby member is at least FF1 certified through a fire academy. So they're all perfectly capable of going in.

165/85 can also try Rockland but thats a 1 lane through the woods each way for most of the trek and is normally an overcrowded, overtrafficked nightmare from 6am-8pm most days. I know, I used to be on it 3-4 times a day.

Yes, then they have to turn left and go south on (one lane) Forest Hill Rd. ???

Only way for E165/TL85 to get to the SI Mall and surrounding area is by one lane, winding woodsy roads that are backed up on a daily basis. No matter which way the ECC/LCC chooses to go will most likely result in a delay of response time. Unless they're responding at 3AM... even then ya never know with SI traffic lol.

Yes!  That's why you would not know who would get in first.  Depends on tine of day (traffic), day of week and weather.
