Woolworths used to be that gray building on the left in the photo?
BTW - no vehicle traffic from Northern Blvd. to the library, except buses. Main street is now a pedestriam mall.
Correct Senior, That was Woolworths and "Upstairs Records" was on the 2nd floor of the building to the right of the parking garage entrance. Just an FYI across Main Street there was Gloria's Pizza and Bickfords Cafeteria. As "Archie" once sang, "Those were the days."

Believe it or not, Gloria's Pizza is still alive and well (under a different name.)
The two "Sal's" opened AMORE PIZZA in the Whitestone Shopping Center off Linden Place when Gloria closed. Their sons now run it. Same great "thin crust" pizza as there was 60 years ago.

Come to think of it Senior, where Woolworth's was there was a multiple in the former building back in the early 50's. There is a photo of 272 (RIP) hooked up to the hydrant on Main Street outside that building. They had a '41? Mack at the time. May have been in WNYF but i wouldn't swear to it.

There was a five alarm fire there on March 17, 2022

I remember that one too Kevin. The one I posted about was definitely early 50's. Come to think of it, that photo may have been in an article about eductors. (The hydrant is no longer there by Duane Read)

And on the west side of Main Street north of the trestle was a fantastic bakery called Shelley’s - outrageously good! The last great bakery in the area was Storks in Whitestone on 150th Street and 12th - thanks for the memories is right

Storks Bakery closed in 2014 ...bldg became another 99 cent store....all the bread served in Maggie Mays used to come from Storks.
My wife loved the chocolate layer cake from Storks. Speaking of bakeries, how about "Garden Bake Shop" on Union Tpk. on the north side of the street east of 251's house? They were great also.

We are in Florida and no decent bakeries down here. It has something to do with the humidity and the water. HOWEVER. Marios Meat Market in south Fort Myers has great Italian bread. How you say? The dough is made in Brooklyn, shipped here and baked a couple of times a day in Fort Myers!!
