Southwest Florida  east of Naples

The is a major fire burning in Collier County for the last two days.  I can see the smoke from my street 20 miles north. The fire is outh of the I 75 portion called Alligator Alley

We saw crews travelling in batallions on I 75 south to Naples from Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte.  Crews have travelled from as far north as Venice and Sarasota.

Fire continues to burn for a third day.  Estimated that 7000 acres have burned.  Think of that - Manhattan is about 14,600 acres.  Wow close to half the size of Manhatan.

I 75 Alligator Alley closed from mile marker 105 in Naples to State Road 29 about half way across the alley.  Many people have been displaced. Red Cross providing Shelters, and food and hydration for fire fighters at the Command Center off of Collier Blvd.
