Since tower ladder 159 the first due truck company was at edu day don't u think they should have a relocation unit cover them this is a big first due response area for them.

IMO, there is not enough work in Mill Basin to justify them being a must cover. How often do we get jobs back there?

If 159 then why not 170? Their first due area runs from the back end of Canarsie, the west end of Brownsville, to the entrance of Starrett City, to Georgetown and Bergen Beach where they meet 159. Where do you draw the line?

Way back on May 10, 1962 Brooklyn box 4137 Sinclair Oil Refinery, Basset Ave., Mill Basin went to eight (8) alarms. Marine companies did a heck of job at that fire.

L 159 definitely should be covered L 170, L 156, L 153 and L 157 are all at least a 10 minute  (or longer) run into Mill Basin and Bergen Beach. Lot's of PD's full of people who pay taxes and deserve adequate fire protection.

2014 Runs & Workers:

Co.          Runs        EMS  Workers  OSW  7-5's

L159 2,993 0 2,448 348   49

L053 189 0   171   19    02

(L053 is always covered because the only way on and off City Isl. is a bridge.)

Not sure if 69mets has the following information. In the Spring issue 1962 WNYF is the write up on the fire and there is a lot of space given explaining the actions the  Fireboat Smith and its crew took. It also detail the operations of the Wagner and the Willis. As I said in my first post, the Marine Units did one heck of a job and saved the day.

Is there any way to access that Article 'On-Line', or is one at the mercy of having to find a 'Hard Copy'; If so, Where ?

Thanks, staj.  ;)

69mets knowing that your father was the boss on the Smith and being able to get the article on the site so you could see what a job he did made my day. If worse had come to worse I would have gladly obtained your address and mailed you my copy. I was active with Engine 225 when this took place. Your welcome my friend and have a nice day.
