45 truck never went into the third; however partway through the incident another box was transmitted (I believe by Division 7) at the Metro-North station just south of the fire, and they were assigned to that box (they were acting TL33).

Well I'm happy to see that TL-17 got in there. Back in the old days, L-38 would relocate down to L-17. Wow, how things have changed. ::)

What old days were that? L 38 was always one of the busiest Bronx truck companies, even before the War Years. In fact, in 1971 or 72, L38 replaced L31 as THE busiest in the borough.

Look up some old pre 1964 South Bronx 2100 to 2300 boxes and see everybody relocating to L-17. Truck companies like 19, 28, 29, 38, 43 & 49 even though they may have been busier.  ;)

ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT ALARM BOX CARDS? oR ACTUALLY WHAT HAPPENED BACK IN 1964?

Remember back then there was no Tower Ladder 58 or even Ladders 56 & 59!  Ladder 37 came down to 184 St on the box, Ladder 36 responded 2nd due to Andrews Ave & West 183 St. Ladder 27 went from the Harlem River to almost Boston Rd on the box! Yes, Ladder 38 first alarm was larger then too, but not like '27' !  Then when 27 got a job, 33 relocated to their quarters leaving that entire are open. I remember seeing 33 at Ladder 31 & 42's station. Now my friends, those were the day!!!!!  Yes, at one time, Ladder 19 was in quarters with Engine 96 for a while.

There was no Ladder 55 either and if you are talking pre 1966, there was no 54 either. Ladder 27 came up to W 183 St & University Ave and L37 and L46 came down to 183 St. Ladder 47 had a lot of ground to cover on the east side of the borough too.

That's the period I'm referring to when L-17 was a "Key Company" and they didn't relocate on any box card but were always covered. If the run was north, L-43 would relocate to L-17; if south, most of the time it was L-19; east it would be 28 and on a couple of boxes L-49. This was in the 50's and early 60's.

FANTASTIC REPLIES; for this thread!!  There's nothing better than a little "nostaglia" to spin a few heads.  My two cents regarding this THIRD is why did L58 and E46 place so far down the card??

Perhaps they were not available, ie on other assignments at the time they would have normally been assigned.

58 truck didn't become available until after the third was transmitted.  Since two tower ladders were already assigned they were told to remain in service initially.

Just don't forget men that L27 had a second section 27-2 which became L58.

How about Engine 46-2 who became 88-2 & then 72!
Engine 41-2 became Squad 5

Here is a good question for you all - What was the only box that Squad 2 responded out side of there area on once it was indicated that the incident was a working fire?
