Split Rock Golf Course

E-97 transmit the box, and assign the Marine Units. People are telling us there are multiple brush fires in the area

E-97 we are operating at the traffic circle by the NYPD shooting range

B-20 send 66 & 61 to the golf course. Definitely a brush fire over here.

XCO to B-20 you want another BFU. Coming from a distance

B-20. Send 89 to E97’s location at Rodmans Neck. I’ll take 66/61 and 38

B-20. These fires are too far apart for me to manage. Assign another BC to 97s area up by the metro north tracks

B-20 send another engine to meet 38 at the Bartow turn around.

XCO can we 10-99 this Box and how much of an area you got burning

B-20 we have 2 L/S/O and 1 deck gun. 100 X 200 area. 10-99 the Box

B-20 make another box. To great of a distance

B-15 we have 2 forest lines stretched. Stretching 2 more.

I guess when they say, “E70 & L53 do not leave the island, they mean they do not leave the island!”
70 & 53 respond to 4515, 4517, & 4519 off the island. Many years ago they were stopped from responding to those 3 boxes & their associated 8000 boxes, but in more recent years, they been going to them.
 
Tick city in those woods and trails, hope the members check their gear for unwanted riders.

Interesting to see that a deck gun is actually in operation though, I wonder if that was from the brush fire rig or one of the engines.

You would think now that the City Island bridge is no longer a draw bridge that they would be allowed to go off island.
 
So if 70/53 get involved in a job on the other side of the bridge that leaves the entire City Island uncovered until a relocator can get out there. Let's just say it's an all hands, 4 and 3. Next companies up to relocate at 70/53 would be 90/41, 62/32, and 88/38. 15 to 25 minute run for any of them. That's a long time to leave the entire island uncovered, especially on any windy day. A smallest fire could easily get away. If you know the Bronx at all you understand why the City Island cannot be left uncovered.

Would be the same if the engine got stuck on a EMS run 10-99 CPR in progress…. There also has been something like that where the engine missed a fire on the island….

The same would hold true if there was a fire that was on the island. If 70/53 were operating at an all-hands on the southern tip of City Island, the rest of the island would be left uncovered until a relocator got on the island.

Anywhere there is a remote firehouse, there is a chance of a delayed response if the primary station’s units are at another scene and there is a separate incident reported within minutes of the first. Think of E151, L76 or E52, L52.

As a side note, I worked where one crew of 3 was in each station. If a medical call came in, they would take the ambulance. If a fire call came in they would take the engine. One time the ambulance went to a fall with minor injuries. They just arrived on scene and made patient contact when a reported structure fire came in. The crew was committed after making patient contact and couldn’t respond. The 2nd due engine came from 5 miles away and the house was heavily involved. If those two calls happened in reverse order, the outcome may have been different. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s just a matter of luck and how the cards are dealt.

There would be other first alarm companies to respond.

And those relocators would be on the road already with the transmittal of the 10-75. Both City Island and Riverdale are among those quarters that must be occupied If the companies are to be out for any prolonged of time.
