I remember that Box 590. One of the coldest days of the year where we had many days standing by as they dismantled the building searching for bodies. Companies would rotate every three hours spreading out debris after heavy equipment would lay it out on the street.

A quick story about the 590 Box. One night we went for relief, the Red Cross van had left. It was there providing hot coffee etc.
Needless to say we were freezing just standing around. One of the guys told my Captain he was going to find something to drink. I saw him take off with the Police and come back with a paper bag. To our confusion he had paper cups and a box of tea bags! But to our surprise he also had a bottle of blackberry brandy! We walked around with a cup of brandy with just the tag of the tea bag hanging outside. Nobody questioned us but that sip of warm liquid was a treat ion the cold night.
