Has anybody been keeping a count on how many first due jobs E23 has missed since they were relocated to L25? ???

TL86 from Richmond Avenue to Midtown...some ride. Fastest route is through NJ with the Turnpike to the tunnel. 55 mins at the moment. 1 hour 12 mins through BK and city.

I don?t mean to be picky about this, but?well, yeah, I guess I do mean to be picky.

I?m used to the media (print, in this case) having poor reporting and editing capabilities but it always makes me think back to the days when reporters, especially from the Daily News, actually went to the scene of an incident, did multiple interviews and, if they didn?t get the details right, their proof-readers and editors would know enough about the city to catch the mistakes and fix them before they got into print.  In this case it?s not a big deal, but nonetheless it annoys and saddens me when I realize the professionalism that used to be and probably never will be again.

?888 Seventh Ave. near W. 57th St.? The address might be ?near? 57th Street, but it?s ?at? 56th Street, in fact right on the corner of 56th and Seventh.

?the 46-story building next to Carnegie Hall.?  It?s not ?next to Carnegie Hall?, it?s across 7th Avenue from Carnegie Hall.

?being extinguished about noon.?  Yes, 11:49 AM is ?about? noon, but if our member Signal73 on NYCFIRE.NET could get it exact, I?d think the NYDN with all its money and resources could achieve the same precision.

I don?t mean to turn this into a discussion about the abilities of the Fourth Estate.  There are plenty of other sites for that discussion but I had to say it.

I have a daughter in writing school and she told me that there encouraged to use strong verbs in there articles and stories to show more drama.

I didn?t even know what a strong verb vs a weak verb one until she explained it to me lol.

Why the second rescue on the second alarm?  Is that standard or did the Chief ask for a second rescue?

10-76 2nd ALARM A notification signal transmitted when, in the judgment of the Incident Commander, conditions indicate a fire in a high-rise commercial building requires, in addition to the units assigned on a 10-76, a total response of the following units:
4 Engine companies
2 Ladder companies
3 Battalion Chiefs
1 Deputy Chief
1 Rescue company
1 Satellite Unit

Is that restaurant where the 'English Pub' used to be?

There used to be a place called "The English Pub" on Sixth Avenue between West 3rd Street and Minetta Lane, a few doors south of the Waverly theater in the Village.  I believe it was under the same ownership as O.Henry's and La Groceria, each on opposite corners a block north on West 4th (two great restaurants that are still missed, although O.Henry's always seemed more touristy to me). I'd guess this goes back at least to the late '70s or early '80s.  I'm not sure, but it may have moved to midtown sometime after that.

It was in the 70's that I think I remember it being on the west side of 7th between 56th and 57th. The steak and kidney pie (however lousy it sounds) was fantastic. That I do remember.
