If the first 3 trucks left quarters at the same time, I'll bet they all arrive within seconds of each other.

So much of Manhattan sequence of arrival has to do with time of day. This looks like 5 am so all bets were off. But there are times both 3 truck and 9 truck simply can not go against traffic for the one block necessary to get them in first. Both 13th street and 3rd street (Great Jones) go west. If 3 truck could get to 3rd avenue or 9 to the Bowery...they might have a shot. For 11 it's easy...right out of quarters with traffic...block and a half to Ave A and up to 9th. 45 years ago...the only traffic problem I'd have were the street junkies peddling their wares and a couple of ADV's parked at the curb. Guess it's different now. But 449 is a first due box...We always counted on being first in. Stay safe.

That was the same for E5 when I drove it. During rush hour to get to that box or 1st and St. Marks it was faster going down 1st. against traffic because it as wide enough. Going down 2nd with traffic was next to impossible trying to push the traffic.

hey don, did you know about the times 28 would pull the box at 1st and 10th and wait for 5, and just before we did 28 would nose up and start to rewind the box just to get a laugh 😂

Hahaha...ah yes...the good old days. Seriously though....while there was always a rivalry between 28 and 5...there was also a tremendous mutual respect as well. We always knew 5 engine was an aggressive, hard charging company and especially in the truck...we went above knowing we'd be protected by an excellent engine company. Maybe a few words with Capt Jack about taking the front of the building....lol...but great memories of great times.

Uhh...a few times...lol. 432 had to be one of the busiest working boxes in the city back then. MD..."432 is in. Reported to be fire top floor rear". Pull up your boots. Think it still stands in 28/11's kitchen.
