That is indeed a strange assignment. I don’t recall ever seeing a first due engine & ladder coming out of the same house as a battalion chief, but the battalion isn’t assigned even as the 10-75 chief. 🤔

That doesn’t make sense logistically. If an engine and a ladder (stationed with a battalion) can arrive first at a location, then that has to be closest battalion. But the battalion comes from the second due station along with the second due engine and ladder. Well, ok, maybe it’s a border box. But then the battalion isn’t the regularly assigned 10-75 chief. That’s very odd!

The original assignment was for Box 3580, Box number must have been changed at some point, though both numbers were used at different times with no mention from the BxD - confusing!!

79/37 first due, followed by 62/32
Box 3592. Do the mileage...BN15 = 2.2 miles, BN27 = 1.3. Other boxes had to be out to get 63/39 1st due at 3592.

Depending on which route taken, virtually a dead heat btw 62 and 79, but 62 traditionally assigned 1st due. L39 was 2d due from their old quarters (same mileage but easier run than L37)

New quarters, BARB, streets Re-routed,...things do change. And don’t forget BARB only recognizes the actual street direction, not allowing for units to go against traffic out of quarters or into a fire block. Those loop arounds can be crucial in adding that tenth of a mile that skews the old assignment cards.

Box 3580 DeKalb at gun hill rd.

62 79 81. 32 37 46. BN 27 Different animal.

Thanks Brian.

I have an outdated assignment card

Question on my old card... Why would 63-39 be first due and the 15 not on it

Maybe this was when the new fire house was being built
