All these towns are paid fire departments - usually 2 or 3 firehouses per town.  Some have large areas to cover.  Individual fire chiefs.  No big county fire departments in Massachsuetts.  Firefighters appointed from state civil service list. 

North Attleboro, about 30,000 population, was industrial town, home of jewelry manufacturers who made Superbowl and World Series rings.  North Attleboro FD was a good department - 3 fire houses.

My computer skills at posting are inept at best. @ this job there is a Plainville Ladder 1 completely covered in ice, you can see the red front light through the ice and snow. Used a de-icer rig from a nearny airport, they are out of harm's way. The Foxboro is completely frozen in, rig and aerial. And in Chicago Sunday PM/MondayAM actual temps are going to be -12 with wind chill/real feel -30. You know there is going to be a job or two or three in this crap. PS Boston has a third engine on all smoke showing.
