I know Squads are assigned as Engines if 1st, 2nd or 3rd due (except Squad 8 which only takes in 1st & 2nd due boxes). I thought the Engines with Satellites were the same way. On this fire, E159 was first due and responded (without the Satellite). I was surprised to see E152 (Back-Up Satellite transport) assigned as the 4th engine. I thought E152 would be kept available for the Satellite, especially on Staten Island where it's assigned on All-Hands/Doubtful fires.

Would the same hold true in say, the Bronx? If E72 was 1st, 2nd or 3rd due and E97 was 4th due on the 10-75, would the Satellite then come from Queens (E324)?

Yes....If you look at the BRONX JOBS recently you will see 324 / Satt 4 assigned and responding on the 2nd Alarm.
Regarding S.I. you will also see recently
284 / Satt responding to a job

L-78 was 10-84. Long ride for L-82, perhaps it was L-83 as the original extra truck and L-78 went later on.

Ah. Usually that term is used when a box has 3 engines that arrive before the first truck. An example of the truckless triangle would be Engine 237,218,217 and 230 respectively. If a job comes in between them chances are three engines will be 84 before the first truck.

Yeah I get that in Brooklyn, etc. I was just pointing out that this box is about the same--long--distance to all the trucks 10-84 on the 1st alarm.

Well that observation makes sense, but since 81 and 161 (3rd due) respond together it takes away the truckless triangle part.

Definitely long distances for truck companies. Hilly terrain and narrow blocks do not help. Large PDs in the neighborhood.
