A man died and a woman was hospitalized after a jet ski accident off lower Manhattan on Saturday night, according to officials and sources.
A 23-year-old male and a 22-year-old female passenger, both from Manhattan, had taken a jet ski ride from Hoboken, N.J. when they both fell off around 7:20 p.m. off Battery Place and West St, according to FDNY and police sources.
The jet ski flipped while the man was driving at a high speeds on the Hudson River near Battery Park, sources said.

The woman was able to swim to safety at the financial ferry terminal where she climbed up a ladder, sources said. She was transported to New York Downtown hospital, where she is recovering.

Responders were unable to retrieve the man, who went under the ferry terminal, sources said.

There were two water rescues in Manhattan last night. There was alot of confusions with the first call. The public can not identify properly where the incident is taking place. If I am correct a box was transmitted for the area around South Ferry. A sceond box was transmitted minutes later for a location on the Hudson River north of the marina at World Fincial Center. Now that was the correct location. An accident involving a jet ski took place. A woman was pulled from the water & rushed to a hospital. Talking to bystanders first responders found out that there were two persons on the jet ski. A male was the operator & his body went under a dock or a pier. Both FD & PD deployed divers after a swimmer was ordered out of the water because of swift currents. Both FD & PD divers were taken out of the water for the same reason. Plans were made to continue the search at slack tide. Most of the units left the scene except for two or three police boats. One of the police boats was in the process of transporting the jet ski when the body of the missing male popped up next to their vessel. So with the assistance of a second police vessel the recovery was made.

Shortly before 10 pm, a male jumped into the Hudson River off of Pier 40. A search was conducted for him by land, sea, and aviation units. All effects produced a negitive report except that they recovered his glasses and clothering. Divers were unable to find the young victim. Today his body was recovered by NYPD Scuba team. The media has reported that the man was wearing a weighted back pack.
