About 10 years ago Boeing had issues with lithium battery fires on the 787. They found it was short circuiting within battery cells causing inflight fires. Before the problem really got out of hand they encased the batteries in a fireproof case with vents. No problems since. As much as we all hate regulations, no large capacity lithium ion batteries should be sold without purchase of the fireproof box. Then the battery could be charged in the box. Now of course its next to impossible because of cheap non OEM batteries and chargers sold in this country. Nobody in this federal or state governments gives a damn to do anything about it. But God forbid you have a firearm they can't wait to regulate, ban, restrict or seize it. How many people are killed/injured by cheap Chinese or other lithium batteries? Not enough I guess.
