From the FDNY Facebook page:

"Yesterday, FDNY Marine 3 responded to a report of a vessel in distress in the vicinity of the Breezy Point Jetty. Upon arrival, Marine 3 observed three victims struggling on the slippery rocks of the jetty. Marine 3 nosed up to the jetty and was able to initiate rescues of three people. Harsh weather conditions including 20 MPH winds and 2-3' swells made this an arduous task. All three victims were pulled onboard Marine 3 and evaluated and treated for injuries including dehydration and exposure to the elements. Marine 3 then transferred the three victims to land where they received care from awaiting EMS units."

Q: Why do Marines 3, 4, and 8 go "10-9" at night?
A: These three "light" boats are only in service from 0700 hours to 2400 hours daily, from late spring to early fall.

SEASONAL BOAT PROGRAM 2023...

Department Order No. 52/23 Marine Operations Seasonal Boat Program will be in service as of 0700 hours, Monday, May 1st, 2023, as follows:
• Marine 3, based at Kingsborough College, will cover the South shores of Brooklyn and Queens. Marine 3 will monitor the Brooklyn radio frequency.
• Marine 4, based at the Fort Totten, will cover the North shore of Queens and the South shore of the Bronx. Marine 4 will monitor the Queens radio frequency.
• Marine 8, based at Atlantis Marina, will cover Staten Island, and will monitor the Staten Island radio frequency.
These boats will be in service daily from 0700 to 2400 hours and are operated by an Officer and two CFRD certified firefighters from Marine Operations. They will operate on the Borough Radio frequency indicated above. Marine Companies are also available on the Fire Operations trunked radio system, accessed via "FIRE OPS" channel. These 33-foot SAFE Boats are equipped with a 1000 GPM fire pump, 25 Gallons of Universal Gold AR-AFFF (Alcohol Resistant Aqueous Film Forming Foam), generator, de- watering pumps, FLIR Infrared Camera Systems and basic Haz-Mat detection equipment in addition to standard water rescue equipment. These boats are an excellent water source for fires in remote areas near the waterfront. The boats should also be used to ensure the safety of members operating on piers or near the water. They can also be used to communicate with NYPD Harbor Units and NYPD Aviation, the US Coast Guard and other vessels via their Marine VHF radio for water rescues, dive operations, boaters in distress, and/or reports of drowning and other medical emergencies.
As per Communications Manual Chapter 8, units are reminded that signal10-46 shall be transmitted for any maritime fire or emergency:
10-46 Code 1: Any fire in maritime environment (example: vessel, dock, pier)
10-46 Code 2: Emergency in maritime environment - Examples: Vessel in distress, person(s) in the water removed by Marine personnel, hazard to navigation, hazardous materials incident in maritime environment.
