Manhattan Beach - Oriental Blvd near the nursing home

Reported person in the water, L169 designated Water Rescue Unit

L169 reports rescue swimmer being deployed into the water

BC43: We had a swimmer in the water, L169 swimmer pulled the victim to Marine 3. Have EMS meet M3 at Kingsborough College

Marine 3: Make sure we have EMS responding to Kingsborough College by our quarters

BC43: At this time we don’t need any other units, L169 was in the water they were tethered. As of right now the patient is in stable condition.

TSU2, SQ1 and DIV15 are 10-8 (normally assigned DIV8 was at Staten Island AH)

"Ladder 169 received a call just before midnight for a person in the water in the Manhattan Beach area. They arrived on scene and began to search for the victim with @NYPD Officers. The victim had been swept about 1,500 feet by a heavy current in pitch black water. Upon locating the person, Firefighter Nicholas Battaglia jumped into the water with a torpedo and life preserver, swam out and secured the victim. Marine 3 arrived, navigating around submerged pilings in the dark to assist in the rescue. Firefighter Steve Caglione threw Firefighter Battaglia a rescue rope and pulled them alongside the bow and on board Marine 3 with assistance from Lieutenant Shayne LaBianca and Firefighters Marlin Byrne and Chris Mancini.
“The victim had been swept away by a heavy current about 1,500 feet, so we had to run down to locate them in the pitch black water. We could see that the victim was struggling to stay above water, and Firefighter Battaglia jumped in to grab the victim as they were going under the water,” said Lieutenant Gordan Reebe, Ladder 169. “Firefighter Battaglia had to swim about 20-30 feet to get the victim, and Marine 3 threw a rope and pulled both on board. This whole thing happened really fast, but the adrenaline and training kicks in.”
While underway to Marine 3’s dock, they provided a detailed patient assessment. Upon arrival, patient care was transferred to Station 43 Lieutenant Christopher Demotte, Paramedics Jose Parra and James Wheaton and EMTs Linda Callery and Andrei Kudrashov, who transported the victim to the hospital in stable condition."
