From the FDNY Facebook page:
"At about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, FDNY Marine 8 received a call from the U.S. Coast Guard - Sector New York for someone on a personal watercraft in distress in the Raritan Bay.
Marine 8 found a disabled jet ski approximately one mile off the Ideal Beach shoreline. The person on the PWC told members that his passenger had fallen off and that he was unable to restart the jet ski and lost sight of the passenger in the water. Marine 8 removed the operator from the disabled jet ski, brought him on board the boat and did a medical evaluation. Then, using a track line search pattern, Marine 8 was able to locate the passenger approximately 600 yards away as she was entering the Raritan Bay shipping channel. Members reported that she appeared exhausted and was struggling to keep water from her mouth.
Marine 8 members used a throw rope to retrieve the passenger and bring her on board. She was assessed for injuries, wrapped in a blanket and treated for hypothermia.
Thanks to the swift actions and teamwork of Marine 8, both individuals were taken to Keyport Municipal Boat Ramp, where they were transferred to EMS for further evaluation and treatment. "
