Having work as a Lieutenant and later a Captain in Midtown, many maybe 1/4 of the serious fires, in Midtown were and are related to duct fires. A full examination of the duct/s must be made from the bottom to the roof and any exposed areas above. Hoselines must be stretched to the point of origin of the duct and to the roof and often everywhere else along the run of the duct. Thermal Imaging Camara devises must be utilized. This includes and if available drones with Thermal Imaging capacity. One of the first things that must be determined is if the duct work system in attached to the exterior of the building or run up within any part of the building. I have seen the roof of the fire building and even adjoining buildings ignited by flame blasting out duct termination point, where highly heated fire gases receive enough air to ignite. Always examine any exposure buildings for possible fire for serious duct fires. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired

I feel like until you have done it you don't realize how difficult it is to disassemble them at a job. Bashing them with the haligan just makes things worse but I would guess the battery dewalt FE saw is probably a great improvement.
