The Pawcatuck FD responded to a reported roof collapse at 12 River Road.  Arriving units found half on the roof on a 50x80 vacant building had collapsed into the building.  A tower ladder was set up to examine the collapse.  The roof came down on top of a boat stored in the building; there were also barrels of gasoline in the building.  The building was part of the old thread mill complex; half of the complex had been transformed into residential apartments.  It was decided that the barrels had to be removed.  Additional units from area departments were requested with specialized equipment.  One precautionary line was stretched.  One department sent a drone for pictures of the interior of the building but it was not able to fly due to the fact it was within five miles of Westerly (RI) airport.  Prior to removal of the barrels, the contents had to be pumped into additional barrels brought to the scene; this was a very labor intensive operation.  Units were operating for seven hours.
