L5: Yeah, L5, we got a verbal for a plane accident at West St & Christopher.
Disp: You said a plane, correct?
L5: Yeah. There's a marine unit out in the Hudson right now, you might be able to raise
them on the air.
Marine 1A to Manhattan?.
Disp: Marine 1a,K.
M1A: We're investigating some type of plane or debris down in the river out in across from
our quarters
Disp: We got it out as 14th St & the Hudson River; is that correct?
M1A: That's affirmative; right across from Crestview ST.
Disp: Alright, let us know. We're gonna send ya the box.
11:54 M1A: Be advised it was a helicopter that crashed into the water, and we have a debris field
here.
Disp: Alright, 10-4. Ya got a better location on the helicopter, K?
M1A: Be advised it's the Hudson River, just north of (garbled).

11:56 Disp: Manhattan to Engine 22. (no response)
L12: Ladder 12 to Manhattan. We just got a report that Marine is on the scene and it's
closer to the Jersey side.

dropping him off at the south side of Pier 40.
12:00 SQ18: Squad 18 to Manhattan.

R1: Yeah, we're waiting for M1A to pick us up, we can confirm a helicopter in the water.
12:01: M6; Marine 6 to Manhattan

D3: Alright, we have a confirmed helicopter in the water, one person outta the water, is that
correct?

Disp. Alright, uh what's the best location for this, for D3 and the incoming units?
M1A: There was a ladder company, I believe L5, if they go by L5, they can see everything
right from the shore.

M1A: The debris field begins right in front of where the Circle Line is.
Disp: That's what, 42nd St? (no reply).
12:03 Car 14C (unknown assignment, but 14 series are Fire Marshalls) to Manhattan

D3: Yeah, let's see if we can get a location where we can set up a staging area close to
where the chopper is, K?
Disp: Yeah, 10-4. I'm trying to ascertain the location of L5; he originally gave us a verbal
for West St & Christopher St, K..

12:04 Disp: Manhattan to L5. (no response). Manhattan to B2. (no response).
B9: B9 to Manhattan.
Disp: B9.
B9: We'll take a ride over to the Circle Line pier with 4 Truck.
Disp. Alright, 10-4. That;s supposed to be where the debris starts.

Car 23: C23 (unknown assignment) to Manhattan.

C23: Responding to chopper in the water at . . . what's the exact location??
Disp: We're trying to ascertain that now. Manhattan to B2. (no response)
12:05 M1A: M1A to Manhattan:

M1A: Can you advise EMS that this 10-45 Code 1 that we have, we're offloading at Pier 40.
Disp: M1, you're going to Pier 40, the south side, is that right?
M1A: That's right, the south side. We'll be meeting SQ18, they'll be coming in.
D3 asks again where the incident is, and is told they're still trying to determine.
B2 calls in, and is asked where they are. They respond that they're at Pier 40. Disp asks
for any info on the 2 aircraft involved, how many people are involved, and if they
have any identifying marks on either one of the aircraft. Their reponse is garbled.
12:08: M8: Marine 8 advises they're on Manhattan frequency, responding.
B2 advises they have no known markings on the aircraft, and that aircraft size and # of
people is unknown.
12:11: Car 1E (Director of Public Information) advises they're responding.
D3: Transmit a 10-60 for the box, K.
Disp: 10-4.
Disp: 10-4. Announces 10-60 2nd Alarm for Box 501, West St & Christopher St, for a
plane & a helicopter into the river.
12:13: B2: The command Post will be on Pier 45.
Disp advises that B9 has no debris at the Circle Line pier; D3 advises to tell B9 to come
further south, down to the Sanitation bldg.
12:14 Marine 9 advises they are responding with a 30 minute ETA.
E7 asks where Pier 45 is
Car 4C (Dep Asst Chief of Ops; Logistics) advises Pier 45 is West Houston & West Sts,
they are 10-84.
D3 asks how many marine units are responding, Disp advises five marine units are responding. D3 says they don't have much debris where they are.

12:19: Car 4C requests EMS forthwith to Pier 40, they have a 10-37 there. Dispatcher advises
that EMS has been notified of the location,
12:21: D3 advises to have all units respond to the south of Pier 54, the old marine unit's quarters.
Car 1E advises they are 10-84
B9 advises to put them on Box 501. They are at the 30th St Heliport.
12:26: B33 is 10-84 at Floyd Bennett Field, will advise when airborne.
12:35: D3 asks for a printout of all responding units, is told that FAA is confirming mid-air collision
and that there are reports of 6 people on the small plane. Advised that this is
unofficial report.
12:40 : D3 advises something about people on the helicopter, but is stepped on by other
transmissions.
AFTER THIS, THE RADIO GETS VERY QUIET, WITH VERY FEW MEANINGFUL TRANSMISSIONS. UNITS BEGIN TO BE RELEASED AT 13:05.
