From the FDNY Facebook page:
"Early Monday morning, members from #FDNY Marine 8 rescued two people along the Chapel Hill Channel after their jet ski overturned, leaving them in the water overnight. The two individuals were separated after their personal watercraft lost power and was toppled by a wave. Both were suffering from hypothermia and were treated by EMS and transported to an area hospital.
“We’re constantly on patrol and drilling during our tours,” Marine 8 Lieutenant David Torres said. “Knowing that no two calls are the same, staying familiar with our response area, our tools, and insights—such as reading the tides and currents—helped us save both patients. It was a complete team effort, and everything we trained for came into play to help save someone’s life.”
Terrific work by Marine 8 in coordination with the NYPD and the U.S. Coast Guard."
