8/14/2010 All Hands 10-77 Bronx Box 4399

This run down shows how thin coverage is in the northeast Bronx. The lenth of the runs E-45 and L-33 have to make to get up here. This is getting very close to the border with Pelham Manor and Mt Vernon.

Didn't E66 who was already at the scene have a High Rise Nozzle? ??? And isn't TL51 a Vent Support Truck? ???

Gman yes those are high rise nozzle and vent units, in L-51 case they are operating as 1st or 2nd due truck so another trained vent unit L-33 is assigned. Same for E-66 they too operated as Engine so another high rise nozzle unit assigned. Our procedures call for the 4th due Engine to take high rise nozzle into building if a high rise nozzle is already on scene as E-66 was.

They should have all companies trained on special high rise and venting equipment so all they would have to do is request an additional engine or truck and have them come in and use equipment off a rig that is already on the scene. This saves fuel and the chance of a unit traveling fast from far away getting into an accident.

Couldn't agree with you more G-Man

I agree also but in the case of vent unit I think they have the needed equipment in a 2nd piece which would not be with the unit if assigned on intial alarm. Most of the vent trucks are also trained as cpc units. High rise nozzle requires nothing special in terms of training or use.
