Certain Towns in Connecticut have been really impacted by the heavy rains and flooding
Started around maybe 16:00 and still looks like heavy rains until 08:00
STEVENSON DAM UPDATE.
The Stevenson Dam is structurally sound and is operating as it is designed to under high flow situations by passing the inflow through our tainter gates. The dam isn’t designed for flood control so it unfortunately cannot withhold water, meaning that the flows that are in the river are simply being passed through at the same rate.
Earlier the flows peaked at around 55k cubic feet per second but are now receding a bit (about 48k cfs now).
We are getting more rain tonight but don’t anticipate any issues with Stevenson. That said people should not go near the dam as the outflow is very dangerous.
Oxford Beacon Falls Danbury Brookfield Shelton
Ansonia Redding Georgetown Southbury Woodbury Watertown Newtown Monroe Stevenson Naugatuck
Here are some pics & videos
Crews as far as Essex & South Metro Fire (Middletown) have sent help
Credit to original photographers for photos. Also a still photo from one of my good friends who is a volly in Beacon Falls and OTJ here in Hamden rescuing some one via stick of their ladder in Beacon Falls. Video can be found here
