Why would they bring the satellite truck did they need to put some miles on it or something

I get that it must be a logistics nightmare , but 3 100 lbs cylinders require a second alarm response ? How many lines are required ? Not exactly an exposure issue here. I know we have pump capability on the Boats so why not draft ?  I'm stumped but i am sure someone will explain it clearly.

I saw the officer and 2 members of L-15 milling around in the gaggle at the Battery on WABC's live feed.

From FDNY site:

New York City Fire Department (FDNY)
46 mins ?

?You?re dealing with 300 lbs of propane, it?s a very dangerous situation. FDNY Marine companies arrived first and started to stretch initial lines, then were backed up by land units that were transported over. The incident is now under control. With that much propane, had one of the tanks exploded ? it was would have been catastrophic. We took the precaution to evacuate 3,400 civilians from the island. There was one worker who sustained a non-life-threatening injury. The tanks were approximately 100 feet from the water, and 200 feet from the base of the Statue. The cause of the fire is under investigation.? -FDNY Assistant Chief Roger Sakowich, Manhattan Borough Commander, gives an update regarding the 2-alarm propane cylinder fire on Liberty Island. FDNY worked with the National Parks of New York Harbor to safely evacuate the island. The fire has been placed under control.

We have lost buildings with 2 20lb tanks blevining. Father?s Day fire had some small tanks bleve. I know the rest of the country treats LPG differently, but in a congested city, no room for error. Times Square bomber was trying a car bomb with a 20 lb cylinder.  When they go, it is a bomb

BLEVE

If it ever blew, the 5 lb cylinder in your backyard BBQ could level your house (and your neighbor's too, most likely).

This was three 100 lb cylinders

Speaking of I wonder if fdny will ever get a real triple agent truck to replace the purple k unit

Purple k is truck mounted, would have to get truck to island.  Same with foam.  Neither one really best option for this.  Usually SOP is to allow to burn unless leak can be stopped.  Keep tank itself and exposures cool to prevent BLEVE.  Purple K will help extinguish, no cooling properties.  FOAM, really not used for this either.  As soon as the LPG hits the air, it is no longer liquid.

I spent the day tour working at the 1987 BKLYN 18th Ave Plumbing Store Explosion & Fire caused by propane ...as said above this stuff can be like a bomb.... https://www.nytimes.com/1987/07/22/nyregion/4-are-killed-and-11-injured-in-propane-explosion-in-brooklyn.html
