Eventually, they have to skip over many closer companies because they need to leave some sort of coverage within the span of the area…unless they do a double relocate which seems not feasible. (Ex reLocate ladder 100 to ladder 200. Then relocate ladder 300 to ladder 100)

Theirs a lot of places I listen to that do what your referring to as a double move up or progressive move up.

Which in this case could be a Brooklyn or Queens truck to the Bronx and then the SI Truck to the Brooklyn/Queens house. Cuts down the time the units are on the road to the cover assignments.

Also I don't know, does FDNY "respond" to move-ups? I know several places (especially LA) the have Code R Move ups where the units will respond to the station they're covering if theirs a critical shortage in coverage. Not sure if that's in play in NY or not (with the traffic some day's t would make sense).

"Emergency Mode" for relocations. Good old fashion lights and sirens
 
Many of the NE Queens companies and a battalion were either at the fire or relocated to the Bronx. Companies from elsewhere in Queens were then relocated into NE Queens. I was surprised that the entire 326,160 & the 53 house was in the Bronx.
 
Does anyone know where L-19 was during this major fire? I covered, as a Cov. Lieutenant long term in L-19 during the mid 1980's and at that time the really got to most major fires in much of the Bronx.
I say once more at the chance of sounding like a broken record. If you must call multiple Engines and Trucks above the 5th Alarm, for other than relief for real fire duty you a lying about the reality of the fire. It is really a 6th or 7th Alarm or greater. The U.F.A. & U.F.O.A. MUST get this out to the media. Years ago, the Philadelphia F.D. was miss reporting the actual number of units operating at fires and the net result was a reduction in P.F.D. units. Philly is still dealing with a deficit of active fire units. Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired
