Chemical emergency in a vehicle.

Engine 295 & Tower Ladder 144 initially called for a car leaking gas.

1412 - E-295 - We need EMS and PD. We have a possible chemical suicide attempt. Make this a 10-80 code 1.

1416 - E-295 - We have EMS on scene. Make this a 10-37 code 1.

1418 - Bn. 52 - Keep Haz-Mat units coming in. You can return everyone else.

1429 - Bn. 52 - Engine 274 is taking readings in the car and EMS is evaluating 2 other people in the car.

1450 - Bn. 52 - All Hands - 10-80 code 1. Units are still investigating an unknown box found in the trunk. We're also assessing members for possible decon. No additional units are needed.

1508 - Div. 14 - Haz-Mat 1 is taking samples. Engine 274 is backup and Decon. We have (1) 10-37 code 1 and (2) 10-37 code 3's. DWH

1537 - Div. 14 - Haz-Mat 1 has mitigated the spilled substance from the car. The sample has been given to PD. Units are starting to wrap up. Under Control - Duration 1 hour 31 minutes.

Just curious, if they keep the Haz-Mat units coming in, wouldn't they keep the Squad coming? Isn't their second piece the Haz-Mat support?

That’s what makes this job so great, you never know what will happen next!

This is being ticky-tacky and nitty-gritty, but if in fact they operated with only E295, L144, E274 & HM1, then it wasn't an "All Hands" because 5 major pieces (eng, lad, squad, rescue, etc.) didn't operate. It's no big deal and at the end of the day it's all good. 👍

an "all-hands" assignment is when 3 engines & 2 trucks are operating. which there was not. i dont know where you are getting "5 major pieces"

I defer to you, as I am only a buff of FDNY. I was under the impression that if any combination of 5 major pieces (eng, lad, rescue, HM1, a Haz_Tech engine or squad serving in the hazadous materials support function), operated then it would be considered "All Hands". So if 2 & 2 were dispatched to an odor of gas and the chief asked for an extra ladder to force entry into exposures, then it could be classified as "All-Hands". Once they were picking up with a radio transmission of, "Battalion 20 we used All Hands for a 10-40, Code 1. No need for additional units and no need for EMS, units are in the process and the 20 is 10-8." But I now know better, my bad! Thanks 👍
