Acting

JB - Another example of a nearby relocation is when a company which requires a relocator if 10-99, is unavailable for fire duty for an extended period of time (at a fire, performing CPR, assigned to explosive escort duty).  I have relocated to the next engine company north of me because of this.  Now, I'm only referring to a select set of companies which hold this special designation because of their geographic location (companies near the city line, companies in neighborhoods where second or third arriving companies may be delayed due to bridge crossings, etc...).  Hope this helps.
 
I've seen some real slashing Engine companies as acting Squads if they aren't available. Like Engine 269 acting Squad 1 back in 1972 at the great Mattress factory fire in Bay Ridge Brooklyn.

No, E269 was disbanded and Squad 1 took it's place. The Searchlight used to be with E256 at 124 Dekalb Ave., that firehouse bought by Spike Lee. ;)
